Use the setting that owns the information
Settings → Estimates & Proposals contains General and Templates. General holds shared custom tax and payment terms, estimate pricing defaults, and job-field labels. Templates holds saved proposal wording. How we price contains standing estimating instructions and reference material. Catalog holds reusable items and prices.
Review defaults before starting work
Owners and managers can edit general defaults; some company naming controls require an owner.
- Open Settings and select Estimates & Proposals.
- Choose General and review applicable values.
- Select Save and check the saved result.
- Use Templates to review saved document wording.
- Open a new estimate or invoice and check its applicable starting values.
Check existing work separately
A default is a starting point. Review existing estimates, proposals, and invoices individually. The shared custom tax rate applies when Custom rate is selected; automatic tax uses each document’s details and configuration. Changing defaults does not rewrite a saved agreement.
